Abstract

The difficult transitional period in Bulgaria is accompanied with rising of serious health care problems and the need for their overcoming. The disturbing trend of increasing cardio-vascular mortality established from 1992 till now, stands out even more threateningly on the background of the demographic crisis in the country. This paper presents the distribution of the risk factors among the high risk groups in Bulgaria and the role of the high risk approach is evaluated for possible reduction of the CVD incidence and mortality in the country.
